Barcelona was accused of violating the rules of the tender for the renovation of the Camp Nou.
Previously, the contractor for the reconstruction of the Blaugrana stadium was the Turkish company Limak Marash, which, among other things, built the new arena of the Avangard hockey club in Omsk for 12 thousand spectators.
The El Confidencial newspaper published an article claiming that Limak Marash does not meet the requirements for companies to participate in the tender. These requirements were set by the previous management of Barcelona, led by Josep Bartomeu.
According to the conditions set for applicants for the reconstruction of Spotify`s Camp Nou, companies must prove that they have built stadiums with 40 thousand seats or more in the last 10 years. In addition, applicants were required to prove that they had completed at least 2 projects in Spain with a budget of more than 150 million euros in the last 10 years.
Limak Marash does not meet any of these requirements, but current Barcelona president Joan Laporta chose the Turkish company anyway.
Barcelona released an official statement about these claims. Firstly, the club stated that from September 1, 2022, companies wishing to reconstruct the Camp Nou were no longer required to have experience in building 40, 000-seat stadiums, nor were they required to have two projects in Spain.
Secondly, Barca stated that Laporta did not give the contract to Limak Marash bypassing the terms of the tender, as they changed in 2022. Thirdly, also due to the change in the terms of the tender, the club denies that Limak Marash could not participate in it.
In conclusion, Barcelona noted that the appointment of a Turkish company as a contractor would not in any way prevent the club predictions by soccer news from obtaining a building license from the Barcelona City Council, although El Confidencial claimed so.
